Favorite place I’ve ever lived in Detroit.

I lived here for almost 3 years and it was a pleasure. The rent did increase significantly (especially for the size) but the building and the neighborhood are so beautiful. Highly recommend.

beautiful building but the management..

don't move in here unless you want to fall down the stairs at night because they won't replace hallway lights, lose all your money in washing machines and never have clean clothes, or have outlets break from being so old and stale and not having anyone to come out and fix them. quite sad because i loved living here under previous management.

Wish it was better

The building itself is a classic, old Detroit apartment building - love it. However the actual apartment I had was nowhere near adequate for the price. Frankly, I don't know how they're allowed to rent this space. There are no three prong (grounded) outlets and only 1 smoke alarm - they clearly haven't had a code inspection in a LONG time. Every single door and window was freshly painted over when we moved in, so they're virtually impossible to open in the summer, or even in the winter. None of... the cabinet doors close all the way either. The radiators don't really work. One of them never turned off and the others wouldn't go on or didn't have knobs. The entire apartment is at an angle, if you put a pot of water on the stove you'll see it collect to one side.

The biggest redeeming factor though, for me, is the community. Seward Street has got to have one of the nicest, most welcoming and loving communities I've ever seen. There's a community garden, and a sharing table. All my neighbors were very friendly and kind. Total strangers always offering help wherever they could. Seriously awesome.

Also, the shower is really nice. Not the tub or the tile, no definitely not that. But, the water pressure/temperature and shower head are the best I've ever had. I will miss that.
