This month, I received an email from Grey Star saying that I was being evicted and had 3 days to exit the apartment and to make immediate rental and utility payments. This type of thing never happens to me as I always pay rent etc. on time and I was extremely upset. I contacted the manager and ask what was going on. She said she had not received my rent check. I think this was on May 12. I told her that I paid my rent paid on May 1 and I handed it to a new young woman sitting at the front... desk who I didn't know. I asked the manager to check the procedures that are followed when a check is received and follow it through the steps to its posting. I again told her that her office had my check and it needed to be found. She never exhibited any sense of responsibility for the lost check and put everything on me. She told me I needed to write another check. I contacted my bank and the check had not been received or posted there. I was told that a stop payment was necessary. This involved my going to the bank in person and initiating the stop payment. There would be a fee of $38 . My bank is not in this area, but in another part of town, which presented a burden for me. I again talked to the manager and again requested a thorough search of her office and of the places that the check would have traveled. She said she had already done this and wasn't going to do it again. At this point I gave up trying to find my check and gave in went to the back and following the stop payment process. She did tell me that she would credit the bank's fee to next months statement. Because of these events occurring in each of the past two months, it seems to me that the office has a problem with the posting of rent checks and that results in a burden being laid on the shoulders of the residents. Never mind the trauma this kind of situation causes. I insisted that in the future, a system be put into place where a receipt is produced and given to the resident proving rent payment. I'm asking that this be done for all residents and not just for me. Thank you for your attention.
